The past & the present

The EPA President is a position elected by the membership at large. From its inception in 1919 to 2005, the President’s position was occupied by a member of the EPS on a part time basis in conjunction with that member’s full time duties as a sworn member of the Edmonton Police Service. In 2005, the EPA membership installed its first full time President, seconded from their full time duties in the Edmonton Police Service.

The EPA Executive Director – Business Manager Position, was created in 1983 upon the retirement from the EPS of long time President, Norm Koch, to assist the EPA Board in running the affairs of the EPA. Norm Koch was the first person to occupy this position given his long standing tenure as President and established knowledge and experience in the Police Association universe in Edmonton, Alberta and Canada.

Upon Norm Koch’s retirement from that position in 1998, the position was posted for retired, former EPS members with and extensive background in Police Labour Relations, with a focus on Association experience and knowledge.

In 2016 the EPA membership installed its first full time Vice-President, seconded from their full time duties in the Edmonton Police Service.
